User receives error viewing calendar "The folder you selected is not available"

Hello All,

I was recommended to come here by the folks at Office365 support. This is a continuation of my question asked here:

https://community.office365.com/en-us/f/148/t/297584

To summarize what is happening, here is our setup:

  • All users are using Office365
  • The error does not occur using the OWA, only on the Outlook 2013 Clients

Here is what we are doing that produces an error:

  1. User A Goes to Calendars inside Outlook
  2. User A right clicks the calendar he or she wishes to share and selects: Share -> E-mail Calendar
  3. User A uses the GAL to select the user who should receive the shared Calendar and Sends the invite
  4. User B receives the email
  5. User B uses the Open this Calendar button within the email to attempt to view the Calendar.
  6. User B finds that the Calendar is available under the Calendar tab in Outlook, but if he clicks it he will receive the error: "The folder you selected is not available"

In the previous posts, we determined it was not a permission problem or an Office365 server-side problem. It is a client problem.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

This issue generally occurs when Outlook is connecting to your mailbox via MAPI over HTTP. Here is an article about it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3015578

Please refer to the solution in the KB and update the Outlook 2013 with the latest patches and service packs. If it doesn't work with the updates, please do the following steps in Outlook 2013 to open the shared calendar to have a try:
1. Switch to Calendar pane.
2. Click Open Calendar > Open Shared Calendar.
3. Click Name to select UserB.
4. Then click OK to open the Calendar.
Now check whether the calendar can be opened.

Hello Winnie Liang,

I have seen that article, and I tried using the Workaround listed in order to disable MAPI over HTTP via registry. It ended up causing Outlook to fail to start and the user got scared and didn't want any further testing done on their system (understandably.) Unless the patch is substantially  different from the workaround in what it fixes, I'd be inclined to stay clear of this "fix."

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately the Calendar we are trying to share is a custom created calendar and not the user calendar that Outlook starts you with. Doing this will only give you the user calendar.

Thanks,

Kevin
